Yes, I agree...this is an EXCELLENT book. It's the book our missions committee uses for devotional study.



I like how Piper teaches in depth the suffering that takes place in missions. He says, "But worship means cherishing the preciousness of God above all else, including life itself. It will be difficult to bring the nations to love God from a lifestyle that communicates a love of things. Therefore, God ordains in the lives of his messengers that suffering severs our bondage to the world. When joy and love survive this severing, we are fit to say to the nations with authenticity and power: 'Hope in God'."



Clearly, Piper is referencing Phil. 3:7-8 (loss of things, former comforts, lifestyles, possessions, etc. and gain in knowing Christ Jesus) and 1 Peter 3:15 (prepared to share the hope we have in Him).



Again, missions exist only because worship doesn't. Our service in missions is to help share the gospel so that worship can take place which brings God glory.
