Adult Honduran Volunteers In Our Medical Clinic
Today was an exciting day in our ministry. We had two Honduran adults volunteer to help in our medical clinic. Many Honduran kids have volunteered in our medical clinic, but never two adults.
Bernadet is a single mom of two girls who lives in Armenia Bonito. She is a great Christian woman who has been volunteering in our medical clinics for several weeks. Bernadet has been helping Mike with patient intake and has been doing a great job. It has been a joy to have her around.
Dr. Mario Roberto is a Honduran physician from a nearby community. He approached us last week and asked us if he could volunteer some time with us and help us treat patients. We had never met him before and agreed to have him return this week for a trial run. He was very professional and affable. He worked next to Erin and treated 20 of the 40+ patients.
This is a big day for us because Hondurans are involved and taking ownership of their community. We have always strived for Hondurans to be invested in helping other Hondurans. It is important for people to not think that good things only come from North Americans.
Ultimately we envision a time when we can turn our entire ministry over to nationals and start new work in a neighboring community. While today doesn’t mark that benchmark, it is noteworthy. We do not know how long these two will continue to work with us or if others will join. But, for now, it is a great blessing.
