All Not Long

David Guevara is a Honduran who runs a high school youth group here in La Ceiba with his wife Megan.  The two of them do a great job.  Late this week they celebrated the two year anniversary of their youth group.  Madison, Megan (our two week intern), and Mike joined them in worship, fun and celebration.

Their celebration consisted of staying up ALL NIGHT and hanging out with the kids.  Mike, Pamela, David and Megan were the chaperones in charge of 26 youth (including Madison).  They rented a school bus for the night.  We started with dinner at a local restaurant at 7pm.  We then went to the movies and watched a horror film at 9pm.  At 11pm we went to a small, indoor soccer field and played footballito (little football).  At midnight we went to David and Megan’s home.  At 1am Mike delivered a Biblical devotional and prayer for the kids with a strong salvation message.  After that we started a two hour ping pong tournament.  Finally, at 3am we went to beautiful home of a local, wealthy family and went swimming until 5am, at which time, Megan and Pamela prepared pancakes for all 30 of us.

Needless to say the sleep deprivation wiped out Mike’s 39-year-old body.  But, Madison, the eternal trooper, did great.  She even went to school the next day.

This is a great ministry the Guevara’s are doing with these kids.  They have weekly youth group meetings.  We look forward to working with them more in the future.
