Baleadas, Sandals And Sick People
On Wednesday morning our group continued with construction on two work sites. Our visiting short-term missionaries from Houston Lake Presbyterian Church in Warner Robins, GA and Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Douglasville, GA worked hard in the heat and humidity.
At lunch we stopped work for a special treat. Some of the ladies from Armenia Bonito cooked us baleadas. A baleada is a popular meal in Honduras and consists of a tortilla, mashed red beans, cheese, and eggs. It was great food.
After lunch on Wednesday we distributed 250 pairs of new sandals for the women and girls of the community. It was chaos, but something that greatly benefited the community. Each person received an evangelism tract with their sandals.
On Thursday morning we continued the construction on the same two houses. At 11:00am half our group opened the doors on a free medical clinic for the poor people of Armenia Bonito. In six hours we treated almost 40 people. We saw pneumonia, abscesses, a broken leg and more. Each person received free medication and evangelism.
The past two days have been very busy and hot, but everyone is doing well.
