Be Careful Little Mouth What You Say
Sometimes Spanish is really easy. You find that the Spanish and English words are the same or very similar…like the Spanish word for coffeemaker is, well, coffeemaker. And, the Spanish word for car is carro.
But, sometimes the Spanish word sounds like an English word, just not the one you think it is. For example:
The word raton in Spanish does not mean rat, it means mouse. In Spanish the word arma doesn’t mean arm it means weapon, an arm is a brazo. In Spanish if you are constipado you are congested. To be constipated is estrenido. If you are pregnant you are embarazada, but, if you are embarrassed you are avergonzado. In Spanish an insult is an injuria, but, an injury is a herida. Something that is largo is long, but, something that is large is grande. In Spanish sopa is soup, but, soap is jabon. Your ropa is your clothing, but, your rope is your cuerda.
Sometimes the little things make a big difference. One slip of the tongue or the addition of one letter can destroy your meaning.
