Book Review: Faith of Our Fathers
The devotional centers on what is known as the Three Formulae; the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer. Ross masterfully goes through each of these three documents, line-by-line, and provides a succinct devotional that is appropriate for adults and children. Ross spends nearly half of the devotional focusing on the Apostles’ Creed. He spends 13 entries each on the Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer.
The style adopted by the author is reminiscent of that demonstrated in the catechisms, confessions and creeds of the early church. The reader can not help but observe the usefulness of this format in their daily life. The content is useful for study and prayer, but it also builds on unity within the church and begs the question; why are our modernistic churches fleeing from the traditions that unite us in Christ?
While hardcopies of the devotional originally sold for $6, the PCA’s Christian Education and Publications has now made copies available online for free. You can get your free copy here.
