Burglarized
Sometime late Monday morning the duplex we rent in Honduras was burglarized. Nobody was at our home at the time and nobody was harmed. Our family was in Armenia Bonito serving with our short-term mission team from Village Seven Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, CO.
The burglar(s) cut the lock on our front gate and smashed in our front door with something heavy. Our 100 lbs. rottweiler was unharmed and apparently either knew the intruders or was distracted, but it seems was little deterrent.
Every room in the house was ransacked. Drawers opened, books thrown to the floor, files gone through, beds overturned. Our large amount of medical supplies and other ministry supplies were tossed to the floor and a knife was used to cut open some items to search inside. No room escaped invasion. It took several hours for Mike and two friends to clean it all up.
It is uncertain what all was stolen. We know for sure that roughly $1,000 in personal and ministry money was taken and we know that several small electronics (iPod, watch, etc.) were stolen. Unfortunately, the biggest loss was Mike’s computer. The loss of the computer is going to hurt greatly as it has served as such a great tool for personal, ministry, administrative and communication purposes.
Our family knows that all things on this earth belong to God. Anything we have we have only been given temporary dominion over. (Exodus 9:29) We know that God is in control of everything and we don’t need to know why or how He does what He does. (John 13:7) We know that God will not give us trials greater than we can handle. (1 Corinthians 10:13) And, sometimes it is hard to understand, but we know that we must thank God even for things like this. (Peter 4:16)
We ask that you pray with our family as we struggle with the normal fears and severe emotions that accompany such an event.
