Care And Feeding Of Your Missionary
More than other classes of Christians, those who serve cross-culturally have to take a high level of responsibility for their own spiritual growth and care. One of the primary reasons for missionaries leaving the field is failure to take care of oneself spiritually. Spiritual health cannot be separated from other areas of life, such as a healthy marriage and maintaining the proper balance between work, recreation, and family. Spiritual health is a whole-life issue.
How can you and your church love and care for your missionaries?
1) Pray for those you support. Download this document and pray through it.
2) Learn as much as you can about missionary life, especially the lives, circumstances, relationships, and ministries of those you support and are praying for.
3) Form a small “care team” of people in your church to periodically enquire of your missionaries, not only their ministry needs, but personal needs.
4) Don’t forget to ask. Contact your missionaries. Don’t wait for them to write you and tell you they can’t handle the mission field any longer.
Caring for your co-laborers overseas is a privilege that we all share and represents a partnership between you and the missionary. It’s also something that can literally make the difference between a very difficult experience and a productive and happy career on the mission field.
