Completed Roof On The Second Floor Of The Dorms

the concrete pumpEarlier this week we reported that the steel beams were in place on the second floor of the dorms. Now we’d like to let you know that the entire roof on the second floor of the dorms is complete. We brought in a pump and pumped the concrete up to the second floor of the dorms.

While we were welding the beams we were able to temporarily hire a welder and a helper. And, during the concrete pour we were able to hire an additional three men to help us speed the process along. It was exciting to infuse a little money into the lives of these men during a time where Honduras has a 35% unemployment rate.

pouring the 2nd floorThe concrete pour began at 1pm in the afternoon and didn’t end until 9pm that night. Once you start pouring wet concrete you can’t stop. Our teammate John orchestrated the entire thing and guided the process masterfully.

A year ago this building didn’t exist. In the summer of 2011 we were able to use the completed first floor of the dorms to sleep nine short-term mission teams from the U.S. Now, we are trying to race ahead on the second floor of the dorms to enable us to house 20 short-term mission teams in the summer of 2012.
