Construction, Competitions And Communication

The 17-person short-term mission team from East Lanier Community Church in Buford, GA is doing great.

On Tuesday they simultaneously worked on two houses for two different single mothers in Armenia Bonito. The group is energetic and not afraid to work hard. They brought us a step closer in completing a new house for Argentina and her three kids. The team also began ripping down old wooden walls and a roof on the house of a widow of 20 years. We will replace some of her walls with cinderblock and the roof or her house.

Tuesday afternoon we continued in our World Cup soccer theme. We hosted a soccer skills competition for the kids of Armenia Bonito. They competed in numerous events including kick-as-far-as-you-can, longest goal, juggling, heading, shooting for the cross bar, and more.

projecting the Honduran soccer matchWednesday morning at 5:00am the Honduras national soccer team played in their first World Cup much in 28 years. Our team went out to Armenia Bonito before 5:00am and set up a projector and speakers in the community center and hosted a viewing party for the residents. We projected the game on the wall and served refreshments to the 50 attendees. Unfortunately Honduras lost to Chile 1-0. They also projected the next game. The team ate Honduran lunch prepared on a fire oven in a lady’s outdoor kitchen. After lunch the team took the kids from the community to the river for some swimming.

Mike teaching communications to new missionariesMike continues to work from Atlanta where he is recruiting possible teammates, training new missionaries and raising support for our ministry. On Wednesday Mike taught an hour-long course on proper communications for a group of recently approved MTW missionaries. This group will soon move to the mission field. Mike trained them in viewing good communications as a necessity not an option. He described numerous techniques and proper format. It is our desire that Mike’s efforts can help other missionaries better communicate the message of the Lord’s work in their regions.
