English Instruction In Armenia Bonito - Eighth Class

Yesterday we taught our eighth English as a Second Language (ESL) course in the community of Armenia Bonito.  This was the 8th of 10 weekly classes we will teach to this group. These classes are on Thursdays from 9am to 11am.

Mike teaching verbsMike taught the first hour focusing on definition, conjugation and pronunciation of verbs.  Erin taught the second hour with an emphasis on variations and pronunciation of food.  We also had each member of the class stand up and read an English Bible verse.  These students are very dedicated and appreciative of this free class.  Some are already looking forward to the start of our next classes.

Last week we reported to you that, after class, we were inundated with an abnormally high number of people (45) who Erin checking out the eyesattended our free weekly medical clinic.  Yesterday, we saw 65 patients.  This is amazing.  Just two weeks ago we saw only 12 people for health issues.  Yesterday we were overwhelmed.  We arrived in Armenia Bonito just before 9am to set up for ESL.  Class ended at 11am and we immediately started seeing patients.  We concluded at 5:30pm only because we ran out of light (no electricity) and medicine (a suitcase full).  Sixty-five patients in 6 ½ hours – that is one person every six minutes.

Erin treated various funguses, a hernia, arthritic knees, urinary track infections, a severely burnt hand, and much more.  Mike took blood pressure and blood sugar readings for each person and attempted to diagnose some of the more basic (or imaginary) illnesses.

This is becoming such a great blessing to this poor community.
