English Instruction In Armenia Bonito - First Class

Mike and Erin teaching EnglishToday we started a new ministry here in La Ceiba.  We taught an English as a Second Language (ESL) course in the community of Armenia Bonito.  This was the 1st of 10 weekly classes we will teach to this group.  We will teach other 10 week courses at later dates.  This class will be on Thursdays from 9am to 11am.

Our first group of students in HondurasThis class was attended by 25 people, most of which know NO English.  We started by giving the class a short written and verbal exam to determine their ability levels and then continued with our first bit of instruction, “Hello, my name is…”

There are three wrong answersWe taught the class in the local one room community center with no lights or fans.  The situation was less then ideal in the hot weather, but, everything worked out fine.  We had too much perspiration and not enough chairs.  However, the class was dismissed with lots of enthusiasm and interest.

This is a ministry that we intend to duplicate.  There is a major understanding that knowledge of English improves your chances of getting a job in Central America.  We believe that eventually we will be teaching ESL classes on other days of the week, other times of the day and in other communities.

We are extremely eager to teach these courses.
