First Week of School
Mike and Erin completed their first week of study at the Spanish Language Institute in San Jose, Costa Rica. Madison completed her second week at the Soujourn Academy.
In the adult Spanish classes all adults have been broken into 19 classes of five students each. Each class consists of students at roughly the same ability level. Each student has one class of Phonetics (pronunciation), one class of Language (conversation), and two classes of Grammar (vocabulary). Each teacher allows ONLY Spanish to be spoken during class. ALL instruction is given in Spanish. If a student has a question they have to do their best to form it in Spanish.
Mike started his first day in shock at the fact that we are only allowed to speak Spanish in class. “Wow, this really is SPANISH school.” Nothing a brief panic attack couldn’t cure. He took his first exam on Friday, in Phonetics, and received an A. Also on Friday, Mike delivered the morning prayer (in Spanish) in his Grammar class.
Erin has had a great time getting to know our fellow students. Almost all are missionaries headed out to Central and South America. While her first test isn’t until late next week, she finds herself a little overwhelmed with the conjugation of irregular verbs. In addition, Erin has been selected as the Worship Team Leader for our twice weekly worship services.
