Honduras Update For June 28 at 6:45pm
This is the second update. To read the first go here.
In conjunction with a request from the U.S. Embassy our team and the visiting missionaries from Warner Robins and Douglasville, Georgia stayed inside our home. In the morning Mike lead five adults in the Darkness 2 Light child molestation training and in the evening we hosted English language church in our home.
There are confirmed reports of a demonstration in Tegucegulpa (300 miles south of us) at the Presidential palace, and streets in the vicinity of many government offices are blocked by police or military. In general, the streets of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula are quiet. Reports from the rest of the country indicate that calm is prevailing.
For Monday the U.S. Embassy has lifted its request for U.S. citizens to remain indoors. Therefore our team will continue with its regularly scheduled ministry activities in Armenia Bonito on Monday. On Tuesday we will put our visiting missionaries on their previously scheduled flight. Honduras' borders remain open, and the airports remain open for regularly scheduled flights.
The Honduran President has been removed from office by an act of Congress and a new President has been put in place to complete the term of the old President. The removal and replacement process was done in accordance of the Honduran Constitution. The old President, who is in exile in Costa Rica, continues to claim he is the legal President.
We ask that you pray for the people of Honduras and the government officials as they sort this out.
