Madison’s First Track Meet

Madison with a rare display of focusMaddy’s school hosted their first track meet of the season this afternoon. Maddy ran the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters and the first leg of the 4 x 200 meter relay.
 
The school doesn’t have much money, so there are only running Runners to your mark....set....events. And, track is not popular in Costa Rica at this age, so there are no other teams to compete against. The team organizes “all comers” meets every Wednesday. Local schools and churches are invited to send kids, and many do.
 
Maddy did great in her events. She ran a personal best (18.2 seconds) in the 100 meter dash, beating her best practice time by almost four seconds. Her relay team won their event.
 
The meet was very fun, and had a great mix of U.S. and Costa Rican kids. Maddy had a great time and is very excited to race again next Wednesday.
