Meetings With Pastors And Gift Boxes
It is very much a Latin cultural norm that when a new person moves into a community it is their responsibility to introduce themselves to those who have come before them. This week we held three separate meetings with the Pastors of the three churches in Armenia Bonito to introduce ourselves. Since we are new Christian missionaries serving in that community it was our responsibility to pay respects to those already toiling there.
These three churches are amazingly poor - no Bibles, broken plastic chairs, tin roofs, broken ceiling fans, etc. We met with each Pastor and ensured them that we are here to work with them and help them. We did not come to be competition and take their congregants.
Each church holds Sunday services with about 40 adults in attendance. They have children and youth programs, but no resources other then their love and time.
We brought with us to each meeting a gift box for each church. The box contained six new Bibles, 20 sets of curriculum for children’s church, 50 evangelist tracts and two theological books for the Pastor. The items were greatly appreciated. To us these are basic items. It is usually a given that every church will have these things. In this community they are too poor to purchase even the basics.
We look forward to working with these churches and helping them where we can.
