Olanchito And Back Again, A Missionary’s Tale
On Friday Erin, Mike, Carl (visiting for 3 weeks) and Bethany (visiting for 5 days) climbed into our truck and drove from La Ceiba through Saba to Olanchito, and back again. Olanchito is a small town out in the sticks of Honduras. It is on the backside of the mountains near our home. To get there we had to drive on the country roads around the mountains.
The one-way trip is one hour and 30 minutes over bumpy, pothole filled, unlined, curvy roads. We drove to Olanchito to see the new church being built by a national Pastor. Next Friday we are going to host a free health clinic at his church to help promote his ministry. We wanted to see the church and make sure we could hold a clinic there.
This was a fun opportunity to explore parts of Honduras that we had not seen before. We saw dozens of vultures feasting on road kill from dogs to horses, there were lots of banana farms and scores of little country towns.
We enjoyed visiting with Pastor Johnny and then gave his three kids a ride back to La Ceiba in the back of our truck. It will be fun to host a clinic for Johnny’s church next week.
