Plantains, Seated Soccer And Jonah
On Friday Mike attended FLAME. FLAME is a high school aged youth group run by a Honduran. Mike has been working with this group for several weeks. This weak Mike was in charge of the games and the Bible message.
We played several relay games passing a plantain. The plantain was passed using knees, armpits and elbows. The kids loved this and laughed a lot. The final game was seated soccer. You play soccer seated in a chair. Your chair cannot move and your rear cannot leave the seat. This was a hit, and surprisingly, we only broke one chair in the entire game.
Mike delivered a message from the book of Jonah. He talked about listening to God, and obeying the calling you are given. Like Jonah we often know what is right and what God wants us to do. But, like Jonah, we often do things our way.
FLAME is a rare opportunity for these kids. It is a joy to be part of their growth.
