Receiving Gifts From La Carpio

Hosel from La CarpioAfter school today Mike went out to La Carpio and spent some time ministering to the kids.  La Carpio is a squatter village where the poorest of the poor live at a landfill.

About 30 kids attended today.  Mike played with many of his little friends from La Carpio. Mike carried around some the smaller kids and played jump rope with a bunch of the girls. Hosel is a girl about nine years old. In recent weeks Mike has spent much time with “mi bonita” (my pretty girl) as he calls her. Today was no different.

After play time the group heard the Hosel's picturestory of how Jesus calmed the storm. The kids were then given paper and crayons to draw a picture of the story. Hosel drew her picture and then gave it to Mike as a gift. She even included herself and Mike in the picture. Mike is the one on the right wearing the hat.

This picture is now proudly displayed on our refrigerator. Can’t wait to go back next week.
