Thanksgiving Missionary Style
Thanksgivings is, obviously, a very American holiday. Many of the traditional Thanksgiving fixings are hard or impossible to find in Honduras. But, in the middle of La Ceiba we were able to put together a rather nice thankful celebration.
Our guest list included our entire mission team, which consists of six adults and five kids. We also found a large group of eight “others” to add to our table. Our others included gringo missionaries from other organizations, friends and a Honduran. We had 19 people in all.
The “traditional” Thanksgiving menu included potluck dishes from seven different U.S. states. It was definitely odd by every participant’s standards. However, nobody seemed to complain as we all scarfed down the food. Everyone had a great time. We played games and enjoyed the company. There was so much to be thankful for. We all missed our families and our "normal" traditions, but we were all thankful to the Lord to have each other. This non-typical Thanksgiving was a perfect living out of Psalm 107:1.
