The Coupe, On The Streets And In The Capitol

The STREETS of Honduras are peaceful and life is normal.  Services continue uninterrupted, and contrary to international media reports radio, tv and newspapers are functioning.

Hondurans on the streets supporting their current governmentOn Wednesday 3,000+ people took to the streets of La Ceiba to show their support for the current government, the constitution and democracy.  There was no violence and no arrests.  The people marched through town, sang and listened to speeches.

Lisening to speachesThe site of U.S. citizens with cameras drew special attention.  People wanted us to take lots of pictures and let the world know that they were happy with how things turned out.  There were two very popular themes amongst the placards – condemning the old President for violating democracy and condemning CNN for reporting the story as a violent military takeover.

In the CAPITOL the current government is digging in its heels, as the other countries of the world are demanding a return of the old President to power by Saturday.  The current government is talking tough, but they are also negotiating.  The current President has acknowledged that they are in dialogue with other countries about how to resolve the issue.  Members of the Congress are also talking about a deal amongst themselves.  However, Honduran officials are resolute that the old President will not return to power.

Honduras just picked up two allies. Israel and Taiwan have stated they are in support of the current government and will not stand for other countries using military actions or sanctions against Honduras.

Keep checking back for updates and please pray.
