A little over a year ago, on January 2nd, 2013, pastor Jesús Caseres held the initial church service of our first ever Presbyterian church plant in Honduras. For over a year the First Presbyterian Church of La Ceiba has been meeting on wooden benches under the tin roof of our indoor soccer field in Armenia Bonito. We are now constructing a church building that this congregation will soon call home. The building will be on the same two-acre property as our high school and medical clinic.
As our Honduran construction workers finish their work on our high school they are moving one by one up the hill to work on the church building. Right now the workers are digging the trenches and hand-tying the rebar to create the foundation of the church building.
Our denomination, the Presbyterian Church of Honduras, started three new churches in La Ceiba in 2013. One church is renting a building in Danto and the second church is building a simple roof-only structure in La Fe. This church building in Armenia Bonito is the first church our denomination has built from the ground up.
When complete the church will be big enough for 150 people to worship. It will have a raised stage, an industrial kitchen, a storage area and an office for the pastor. Our teammate John Clow has designed the building and is supervising the construction. This will be one of the most well built churches in the region.
Please pray for the safety of our construction workers and please praise God for using Naperville Presbyterian Church to make this church building a reality.
