Today Mike works his last day in the California State Senate. After working in politics nearly 20 years and after working the last 12 years in the Capitol I am quitting my job. It is both sad and exciting. While it is clear that the mission field is where God has called the Pettengills, the Senate has been a huge part of my life for so long.

The Senate has been a home, a source of many good memories and the genesis of many friendships. It has been a pleasure to work there and serve beside so many special people. Even on a bad day it was a great place to work. Come on, who wouldn’t want to get yelled at by a Senator.

However, it is not sadness that rules the day. This is not the end of a chapter, but the beginning of a journey that God has prepared us for. Every step that I have taken was designed to prepare me for where I am going. I take comfort in that.

It is exciting to know that what is in our future is fulltime service to God.
