Each semester our Spanish school here in Costa Rica sets one week aside as Spiritual Emphasis Week. Instead of our normal chapel service twice a week we have it nine times in five days. The school brings in a guest speaker to deliver all nine messages. Each chapel service is just like a 1 ½ hour church service. This is our second experience at Spiritual Emphasis Week and we are enjoying it.
Our speakers are Joel and Cindy Hylton. They are speaking on “Living with Integrity in the Already and the Not yet”. They work for World Harvest Mission. They are missionaries to Dublin, Ireland, where less then 1% of the population are evangelical. They disciple and teach in a one year missionary training program in Ireland.
A big improvement to this semester’s Spiritual Emphasis Week is that instead of child care, several of the missionaries have organized a Vacation Bible School (VBS) for the kids. A supporting church of one of the missionaries donated and mailed an entire VBS curriculum. Maddy is attending and really enjoying the VBS, which is focused on Psalm 86:11. Sixty kids from the school are attending each night.
Erin is very active this week. She is playing piano during four of the nine chapel services. She is also volunteering at two of the five VBS events. Erin is doing a wonderful job on piano and is responsible for helping with crafts at the VBS.
