Violence Erupts in Honduras Over Poverty

In Honduras 30% of the country is unemployed.  The average person makes just over $1000 a year.  Honduras is the 2nd poorest country in the Western Hemisphere behind only Haiti.
Hondurans protest over povertyOn Thursday (4/17) thousands of activists, students and farmers protested by blocking highways and rallying in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa. They were protesting rising prices and demanding wage increases.  Police fired tear gas at the stick-wielding protesters. Eight people were arrested. Six police were injured. Protest organizers announced more demonstrations are scheduled for May 1.
While violence can not be condoned, frustration is understandable. After decades of abject poverty the people are discouraged. We ask that you pray for the poverty in Honduras and the safety of the citizens and the police.
