House Construction, Kids And Sweaty English

On Tuesday our mission team and the visiting short-term missionaries from Houston Lake Presbyterian Church in Warner Robins, GA and Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Douglasville, GA joined together for a great day.

construction on a new houseThe morning found us dividing the group into two and doing construction work on two new houses for the poor residents of Armenia Bonito.  The first group added mountains of fill dirt to the floor of the house and started construction on the roof.  The second group continued work on laying a foundation of rocks and cement for their house.  The future residents of the homes and other volunteers from the community worked alongside our team.

After lunch our team played with kids from the community.  The kids were full of energy and excited to play with the new gringos.  Most of these kids never receive this kind of one on one interaction from older kids or adults.

English classIn the heat and dripping humidity of the afternoon we worked on English instruction in the community.  Part of the group helped to teach an English class with 20 students, while the other part of our group promoted our English classes by distributing flyers in the community.  During class we focused on pronunciation.  We closed the class with a devotional, a prayer and a small gift for the kids.

On Wednesday we will continue construction and will distribute hundreds of pairs of new sandals to the women and girls of Armenia Bonito.
