What Is The Reason For The Season?

A December 24, 2009 Gallup poll says 78% of Americans identify with some form of Christian religion, 68% of Americans are members of a place of worship and 57% of Americans say that religion has the answers to today’s problems.

A December 2009 Rasmussen poll says that 66% of Americans celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday. The same poll found that of those who celebrate Christmas, 81% believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God sent to earth to die for our sins and 72% say Jesus was born to a virgin.

We are a Christian nation. If this offends you I am not sorry. It is a statistical fact. I am not sorry for being in the majority, nor will I apologize for it. Our popular culture…media, schools, entertainment…have convinced us that even though we are the majority we should hide our views. I am not even talking about the ludicrous required sterilization of Christmas greetings or being force-fed Santa Clause as a substitution for Christ.

My focus here is that even though our Christ centered Christmas beliefs are a majority…not that that matters, because we should focus on Christ if you and I were the last two believers on earth…we voluntarily dumb down our celebration of the birth of the Savior of mankind. All at the risk of offending someone.  A bit of Satan’s handwork that I have heard, and even echoed, are; “Christmas is a kid’s holiday”, “Christmas is about family”, “I don’t like Christmas because it is too commercial”, “I can’t afford Christmas”, “It just isn’t Christmas without snow”. We are allowing ourselves to give up the celebration of Christ’s birth.

The “Reason For The Season” is Christ and Christ alone. Yes, you may eat your turkey and open your gifts, but also proudly proclaim Christ as our only Savior and only way of entering Heaven. Drink your eggnog and sing your carols, but evangelize your unsaved family and friends with confidence.  Glorify Christ by sharing His truth.

Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

Focus your heart on Christ and praise Him with your mouth, your heart and your actions.
