Five Boys One Game Ten Thousand Fans

Mike and the boysOn Friday Mike took five boys from Armenia Bonito out to dinner and then to the local stadium to watch a professional soccer game. The two La Ceiba teams, Vida and Victoria, are usually two of the worst teams in the league. But, this season Vida has been one of the better teams. This was the final game of the regular season and we watched Vida play Marathon. As long as Vida didn’t loose they would qualify for the playoffs for the championships.

Vida vs. Marathon in La CeibaUsually only about 1,000 people turn out to watch the local teams play. On this night nearly 10,000 people turned out to cheer on the locals. By the end of the night Vida had qualified for the playoffs for only the 2nd time in the last 13 seasons.

The boys were very excited and attentive to the game. They had never seen this many people in one place. One boy asked, “Is this everyone who lives in La Ceiba?’ They were quite thrilled and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. We are guaranteed at least one playoff game here in La Ceiba and the Vida fever is high.

It is such a joy to be able to pay for six people to have dinner and attend a professional sporting event all for under $50.
