Soccer Rivalry With The Boys

the gang at the soccer gameOn Saturday Mike and our teammate John took five boys from Armenia Bonito out for the evening. We went out to eat at a restaurant and then to a professional soccer game at the local stadium.

Eating at a restaurant is a rarity for these kids. With mixed reviews, we introduced the kids to hot wings.

The game we watched was a big rivalry match. There are 10 professional teams in Honduras and two of them are from our town of La Ceiba. When those two teams, Vida and Victoria, play against each other it is called The Classic and fans get into a bit more.

road flares and toilet paperThe game ended in a 1-1 tie and got pretty rough in the last 20 minutes. It was a great game to watch. Of course, what would Latin American soccer be without chanting, road flares in the stands, toilet paper on the field and fights in the stands. Sometimes the fans are half the entertainment.

The kids had a great time and didn’t want to go back home.
