Our 15-year-old daughter Madison has completed her first week in New York City, where she is serving as an MTW cross-cultural intern for the entire month of July. She is working at a training where she and other staff are helping to prepare 30 new missionaries to head out on the mission field.
Madison is one of four interns serving at the training. Each morning the interns are assigned to Ascension Church in Queens. Ascension is a church plant of Redeemer Presbyterian and is located in a multi-ethnic community that is home to people born in 117 different countries. Starting this Sunday the interns and some of the new missionaries will host a weeklong vacation bible school in this diverse community.
Each afternoon all the staff and new missionaries meet back at another church in Queens where the new missionaries receive training and Madison is responsible for three, 7-9 year old new missionary kids. Each day she entertains and trains the kids on what life is like on the mission field.
Our future teammate, Kate DeFuniak, is attending the training. It is fun for Kate and Madison to spend some time together before we all meet back in Honduras. Madison, the other interns and some of the new missionaries live in the dorms at Union Theological Seminary located in midtown Manhattan.
