On Monday Mike started a new 10-week English class in Armenia Bonito. Forty-six students attended the first class. Many were returning students, but about a dozen were new students who had never participated.
After providing the students with an overview of the class Mike jumped right in. The students learned basic English phrases, pronunciation, vocabulary for place settings (fork, plate, etc.) and they practiced reading from John 8:1-11.
This cycle Mike has begun a two-track system. The advanced students will be challenged and tested on more advanced topics. When the advanced students heard that, they groaned, but they loved it in the end.
English learning is a great relationship building tool for us, it also provides us with the opportunity to share the gospel. Studying English is a benefit for future job-hunting. This is a great benefit in a culture with 30% unemployment.
