Mike is in Orlando attending The Gospel Coalition’s national conference. This is a four-day conference with some of the best Reformed theologians in the world talking about missions and the book of Luke.
On Sunday the pre-conference on missions ended with a full day of amazing speakers. John Piper opened the day with a great message from 2Cor 5. Piper can always be counted on to provide an amazing message on missions. Michael Oh, fellow MTW missionary to Japan and Director of the Lausanne Movement, delivered a wonderful message on suffering in missions.
In the afternoon TGC hosted dozens of breakout discussions. Mike attended “The Shape of Things to Come in Missions” with Zane Pratt and “Why Latin America Needs to be ‘Re-Evangelized’” with Miguel Nunez.
Stephen Um spoke on Mercy and Justice and Mack Stiles spoke on Reconciliation. Throughout the missions portion of the conference we heard from half a dozen foreign Christians who had been impacted by missionaries.
On Monday the main conference on the book of Luke kicked off. John Piper began things with “Jesus the Son of God” (Luke 1:26-38; 2:1-21). Colin Smith continued with “Jesus Despised” (Luke 4:14-30). Crawford Loritts talked on “Jesus’ Transforming Power on Behalf of the Afflicted” (Luke 8:26-56) and Don Carson discussed “Jesus’ Resolve to Head Toward Jerusalem” (Luke 9:18-62). There was also a panel discussion on “Having Confidence in the Scriptures” with Justin Taylor, Bruce Baugus, John Currid, Mike Kruger, and Chuck Hill.
