On Wednesday we celebrated the one-year anniversary of the opening of our medical clinic. The “Tree of Life” medical clinic (Clínica “El Árbol de la Vida”) is in Armenia Bonito outside of La Ceiba, Honduras. The community of Armenia Bonito is a super-poor community of 3,000 people. The grand opening of the clinic was way back on February 21, 2013.
We held a one-year anniversary celebration at the clinic. At the celebration we provided cake, coffee and a piñata. We hosted a community soccer match. Pastor Jesús delivered a biblical message and we handed out certificates to the nine patients who best at took care of their health in the previous year.
In the first complete year of service we treated 3,650 patients for an average of 17.5 patients every day our clinic was open. Of the patients we saw, 66% were female and 34% were male. Twenty-two percent were under 5-years-old and 12% were over 60-years-old. We treated 421 hypertension cases, 265 diabetes cases and 117 pregnant women.
