World Cup 2014 Kicks Off

HondurasThe World Cup kicked of this week. This 32-team soccer tournament takes place every four years and is the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the world. Soccer is HUGE in Honduras, and for the second Cup in a row, and only the third time ever, the Honduran national team has qualified.

Honduras is not a big player on the World Cup scene. In their previous two World Cup visits they have not won a game, and have only cupscored one goal. That does not dampen the spirits of their rabid fans. Check out Mike’s VIDEO of the crazy scene on the streets of La Ceiba when Honduras qualified four years ago.

Honduras is not expected to do much better this year, but that will not slow the Honduran fanatics. The first Honduran game kicks off on Sunday.

We will broadcast the second match (Friday, June 20th) and the third game (Wednesday, June 25th) on our soccer field in Armenia Bonito. We will provide snacks and pastor Jesús will preach a quick gospel message at halftime of each game.

Pray for peace and that God will use soccer to save souls.
