For Madison In College

imageOur daughter Maddy has started her freshman year of college. She is two-weeks into her first semester at John Brown University in Arkansas and all is going well. How she even got into school is an amazing story from God showing us he is in control when we think he is not.

For most of 2013 Mike and Erin expressed sinful doubt about Maddy being able to attend college due to a lack of finances. Before we went on the mission field Erin and Mike had two good paychecks and paying for Maddy’s college was not an issue. In the last year both of us started to feel like our going on the mission field cost Maddy a college education. There is no way a missionary can afford college tuition.

God, in his infinite grace, showed us he was in control all along. It turns out Maddy being a missionary kid was appealing to small Christian colleges. Her SAT scores and her experiences living in Honduras for six years earned her several academic and missions scholarships. The scholarships covered half of her tuition.

OK, here is the point of all this. We are great givers and terrible receivers. Many friends and supporters have accurately pointed out our uncomfortableness with others serving us is in fact sinful pride. Many friends and supporters who know us well have asked us how they can serve our daughter and encouraged us to publicize the information so others can serve us and serve Maddy.

If you would like to be a part of blessing Maddy while she is at college here are a few ways you can do that:

1) Send her house (dorm) warming gifts from her Amazon wish list.

2) Send her a little spending cash.

3) Help pay part of her tuition.

If you would like to send her a gift from Amazon or a personal check send it to:

Madison Pettengill
JBU Box 3099
2000 West University St.
Siloam Springs, AR 72761

If you would like to contribute to her college education send a check to:

John Brown University
Attn: Bursar
2000 West University St.
Siloam Springs, AR 72761
In the check memo write: 1044394 (UG14FA)

Thank you for loving and serving our family. Please pray for our girl.
