Hebrews 12:1b tells us, “let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” This verse is an analogy to athletics and talks about how in a Christian’s life he will receive opposition and must endure and strive forward to glorify The Lord.
On Sunday the race before us was a literal race. Mike and Erin ran the 26.2 mile California International Marathon. It sounds odd to many, but this has been a big part of our relaxation during furlough. Each day we strap on our shoes and head out the door for a little selfish time. This is very therapeutic for us.
Our marathon was slow, but exactly what the doctor ordered. We had a great time. The weather was perfect as we ran through the streets of our home city of Sacramento. It was Erin’s second marathon, she ran her first during our last furlough. It was Mike’s 14th marathon, but his first one in over 13 years. While on furlough, training for this marathon has allowed us to run in 10 states five countries.
Lord willing, the running therapy will continue and we will have a few more long races before our furlough ends.
