Erin is traveling back to the US for a couple of weeks to take care of some medical issues and Maddy is traveling back to the US to start her third year at John Brown University. Since the two of them already had connecting flights in Madrid, Spain, Mike decided to join them for a family vacation.
August 11-15 our family toured around Madrid and enjoyed the sites. There is so much to see in this huge city. It was a wonderful time. Madrid has so much history and culture and art. We enjoyed getting a cheap hotel in the center of town and walking around to the museums and historical sites. We also enjoyed long hot showers and fast internet after four months in Africa.
Madrid offered many highlights, but the museums and the food really did it for us. We took in the art at the Museo del Prado, the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza. We saw artwork by Dali, Rembrandt, Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, Picasso and more. We fully took advantage of staying in a multicultural city and tried lots of different Spanish and international foods.
The best part was our family got so much quality time together. Within a week we will all be separated and we won’t see Maddy for 18 months. We laughed and hugged and had lots of great talks. Our next stop is Lisbon, Portugal, and then we go our separate ways.
