Little Equatorial Guinea (population 800,000) had two athletes in the 2016 Summer Olympics. They have both been eliminated from their respective events. EG has sent representatives to every summer games since 1984. No athlete from EG has ever won a medal.
Benjamín Enzema competed in the men’s 800 meters in track and was eliminated in the first round. Enzema, competing in his second Olympics, shattered his personal best time in getting last place in his qualifying heat.
Reïna-Flor Okori qualified in the women’s 100 meter hurdles in track but did not start her round-1 heat. She attended her fourth Olympics. She was the EG flag bearer in the opening ceremonies and retired from track after her event.
