Expanding Evangelism In Missions

This past week we sent Anthony English, our new Assistant Director, to New Mexico to be certified as an instructor for Evangelism Explosion (EE). Anthony already has a great heart and great experience with evangelism. Be certified as an EE instructor will help Anthony be more proficient in training others to share the gospel with the lost.

It has become clear over the years not all missionaries are proficient or experienced in sharing the gospel. It is our desire to and an evangelism component to our future missionary training. Anthony will be responsible for this new facet of missions training.

It is our desire to help increase the number of well-trained evangelists on the missions field. We pray our plan will help win more souls among the nations.

A Little Water Emergency

As most of you know, when we arrived in EG, we installed a 1,000 gallon tank to catch the rain water off of our roof for drinking. Since the day we installed the tank there has been a slow leak. About a month ago the leak got heavier, to the point that our tank was down to 25% of capacity. January and February are two of the dryer months, so the timing was bad. We were pretty stressed abut not having enough water to drink.

On Friday we received our first big rain of the wet season. The storm dumped 2.75″ in one hour. Our 1,000 gallon container was full again. Praise God.

Then on Saturday morning, the location of the leak gave way and our entire 1,000 gallon tank dumped its contents on the ground. That’s right, in one hour we went from 1,000 gallons of water to zero. Mike and a friend of ours repaired the tank and it is now back in place, awaiting another rainstorm.

We collected enough water to get us through a couple of days. But, please pray we get more rain…QUICK!

Evangelism Training Part V

EE training at Soaring OaksYesterday we taught another great Evangelism Explosion class at our home church. Mike taught the lecture portion for the tenth week of our 13 week training course.

Week 10 focused on the discipling and training of new believers. This stresses the importance of helping a new believer to learn the importance of study, prayer, worship, fellowship and evangelism.

While training on the streets of Elk Grove over the past 10 weeks our team has contacted 51 people, shared the gospel with 35 individuals and helped lead one to a profession of faith!

We already have Spanish language training material and will teach evangelism in Honduras. To read more about our experience go here.

Evangelism Training Part IV

Erin teaching EE classYesterday we taught another great Evangelism Explosion(EE) class at our home church. Erin presented the lecture and took the students out into the community for On the Job Training. She did a great job and filled in nicely for our two absent instructors.

This was the sixth week of the 13 week training course. We are really starting to make an impact in the community. Numerous people are receiving follow-up visits and scheduling additional meetings and church visits. The students are starting to feel more comfortable and are stepping way out of their comfort zones.

While training on the streets of Elk Grove our team has contacted 36 people, shared the gospel with 18 individuals and helped lead one to profession of faith!

Evangelism Training Part III

Yesterday we taught another great Evangelism Explosion(EE) class at our home church. Mike delivered the lecture and Mike and Erin and two other instructors took the students out into the community for On the Job Training.

This was the fifth week of the 13 week training course. Our seven students are really doing well and are getting very excited about their role. Last night we experienced our first conversion. Standing in front of Wal-Mart one of our teams stopped two strangers and asked if we could talk to them. One of our students led the couple through the gospel presentation. The man, Vicki, ultimately prayed and accepted Christ. When we got back to class all of the students were so energized to hear that one of their own had actually been used by God for His glory.

While training on the streets of Elk Grove our team has contacted 24 people, shared the gospel with 12 and helped lead one to profession of faith!
