Mike Doing Missions Training In Spain

This past week Mike has been in Spain with all the MTW Team Leaders and ministry leaders from the MTW mission teams from Europe. This group of 40+ missionaries gathers together every other year for training and prayer. During the four-day gathering Mike made two presentations to help explain to the MTW missionaries how the new MTW Hubs work and how the West Coast Hub can help them with recruiter new missionaries and connecting them with missions minded churches.

These missionary leaders serve alongside the hundreds of other MTW missionaries throughout Europe. This was a great opportunity to clarify the purpose and work of the new MTW Hubs and how they function.

Mike Teaching Missions In Roseville, CA

On Wednesday Mike was at Valley Springs Presbyterian Church in Roseville, CA speaking at their Wednesday night speaker series called Reaching. Mike spoke on “Missions in your Home Church” to a group of missions minded folks. Mike’s 60-minute presentation was on how churches can grow missions in their home church and how they can better serve the missionaries they support.

The group was very attentive and interested in the topic. Lots of questions were asked and lots of interest was shown. The topic came from chapter two of Mike’s book. The group purchased a half dozen copies of Mike’s book and were greatly appreciative of our work.

Erin Talking Missions At Women’s Retreat

On Saturday Erin was the guest speaker at the annual women’s luncheon for 50 women from Christ Presbyterian Church. Erin was asked to speak on missions and outreach to the group. Erin spoke from Scripture, but used personal experiences of life on the mission field.

Erin truly enjoys the opportunity to share about missions and to speak with Christian women. Her heart for global outreach and for mentoring and discipling women is a passion for her. Erin was also able to share from her missions book and was able to share a few copies with the group.

Erin does a great job glorifying the Lord in these settings. If you have a church group or a women’s group which would like to host Erin as a guest speaker let us know.

The Gospel Coalition’s West Coast Conference

The past week The Gospel Coalition held their first ever West Coast Conference and our MTW West Coast team was there. Nearly two-thousand people attended the event and we had a booth there. Mike, David, and Anthony all put time into the event trying to help reformed Christians to get more involved in missions.

There were reformed Christians from all over the western united states to hear such great speakers as Allister Begg, Kevin DeYoung, Michael Horton, Ligon Duncan, Ray Ortland, Stephen Um and more. The event was focused on 2 Timothy and had lots of breakout sessions, a great book store, and vendors.

We were thrilled to have MTW as part of this first ever TGC west coast event. It hosted a well attended pre-conference on Understanding Gospel Centrality For Asian Americans and was held at the beautiful facility of the EV Free church in Fullerton, CA. We look forward to participating in other great TGC events.

Refugee Training In Arizona

On Saturday Mike, and our teammate David, hosted a Immigration and Refugee training at Rincon Mountain Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona. We brought in two very qualified speakers: Dr. Kay Burklin who works with refugees for MTW in Europe, and Alli Hazrati who lived and ministered to Iranian refugees in Turkey.

Nearly 40 people attended our one-day training. The group listened to the speakers, watched videos, attended breakout sessions, learned how they could get involved with refugees in Arizona and around the world, and prayed for their churches to get more involved with sojourners.

The participants had the choice to participate in two breakout sessions. Mike directed a breakout on “Politics, Immigration, and the Church,” and Alli headed up a breakout on “Practical Refugee Ministry in your Church.” David hosted a table to provide MTW information for the attendees and to answer questions about how they can get more involved in refugee ministry.
