Driving Back To Honduras – Day 2

This 3500-mile car trip should take about six or seven days. From Arizona we are driving through Mexico and Guatemala and ultimately back to La Ceiba, Honduras.

Monday we drove 12 hours and covered 663 miles. We spent the night in Ft. Stockton, TX.

DQWe have packed enough food for our breakfasts and lunches, but we have budgeted for one meal a day. We had our last dinner in the U.S. Unfortunately, it was Dairy Queen. Not that DQ is bad, just not what you’d hope for your last meal. But, that was what was there.

80Our drive through New Mexico was uneventful, unattractive and slow. Once we got into Texas the speed and scenery picked up a little. Eighty miles per hour speed limits can help any drive.

Tuesday is the day we cross the Mexico border. If all goes well we should be into Mexico around noon.

Maddy and Max...gettin' closeMonday morning our fully loaded truck pulled away from Phoenix at 8:45am. We had more bags than we had planned on, so there is no space in the bed of the truck for our 100 lbs. rottweiler to sit. It looks like Maddy will have to share the back seat with him the entire trip.

A REALLY loaded truckOur desire is to cross the border into Mexico Tuesday morning. In order to make that happen we are really going to have to put in a hard first day and cover over 750 miles. Should be possible with the fast gringo highways ahead of us.

Two Church Farewells In One Day

Our family spent Sunday visiting two of our supporting churches and saying farewell to lots of friends.

In the morning we attended Covenant Community Church of Scottsdale. Pastor Barnes preached a wonderful message following a half-dozen baptisms. It was a very emotional service and it was a joy to say goodbye to many friends and supporters. We look forward to seeing the team from CovCom this summer in Honduras.

In the evening we made the 5-hour round trip to Tucson to worship with Rincon Mountain. We heard another great message and received communion. There are so many great people at this church and we also look forward to seeing a team from Rincon down in Honduras this summer. After service we enjoyed a great meal with the missions chair and his wife, and the leader of the short-term team and his wife.

We said so many emotional goodbyes in one day but that simply affirms that we have made so many new friends in recent months.

A Good Day With A Great Church

On Sunday we were fortunate enough to spend most of Sunday with members of Phoenix United Reformed Church. This church has been a strong supporter from the beginning. In addition to felling loved by the congregation we have many friends.

In the morning we worshiped with the congregation for the last time before we head back to Honduras. During the service they prayed for our ministry and us. After service we all attended Sunday school. Madison attended a teen class taught by the Pastor and Erin and Mike attended an adult class on marriage.

In the evening Mike and Madison attended the high school youth group where we shared about Honduras and fielded lots of great questions.

Thanks PURC for being so good to us and for being such active members of our team.

Preaching And Mission Meeting

Sunday our family had a wonderful opportunity to glorify God and share how Christ is working in Honduras.

Mike preaching at Desert PalmsIn the morning we attended Sunday school and worship service at Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Chandler, AZ. Mike was given the opportunity to preach and did a fine job. When the service was over the church hosted a lunch where we shared about Honduras with numerous families.

Mike talking to the mission team from Covenant CommunityIn the evening Mike and Madison went to Covenant Community Church in Scottsdale. Madison attended the high school youth group and Mike met with the group who will be traveling to Honduras this summer for a short-term mission trip. Mike explained what their trip will look like and answered many questions.

Only three more weeks before we drive back to Honduras.
