In Arizona For Three Months

crossing the California/Arizona lineOn Monday we made the 767 mile, 13 hour drive from Sacramento, CA to Scottsdale, AZ. Scottsdale will be our new home for the final three months of our furlough.

Many of our supporting churches and individuals are in Arizona. The next three months will be sharing with them how God has been working in Honduras.

Our three months in California were exhausting, beneficial and fun. We anticipate our time in Arizona will be similar. In the first week of April we will drive back to Honduras to continue our work there.

Last Day In California And Mike Preached

Sunday we attended Soaring Oaks Presbyterian Church. It was our final full day in California before we drive off to Arizona. It was a joy to spend our last day with our church family at our home church. There were lots of hugs and tears.

At both morning services Mike preached a message from John 13:1-17 titled “Pray For More Water In Your Bowl”. It was a message encouraging each of us to create more time to serve others.

The afternoon was spent packing and cleaning and getting ready to drive away from California. On Monday morning we will begin the 12-hour drive to Arizona. For the next three months we will be in Arizona sharing our Honduras ministry with friends and supporters there.

Preparing To Move To Arizona

Our six-month furlough is divided between California and Arizona. For the last three months we have been in California visiting churches, supporters and friends. On Monday we hop in the truck and drive away from California bound for Arizona. When we leave Sacramento on Monday we will again say goodbye to a community that was our home for 20 years.

For the next three months we will share our Honduran ministry with supporters and churches throughout Arizona. The three months we spend in Arizona will afford us the ability to deepen relationships. Many supporters of our work in Honduras live in Arizona.

The next few days will be busy. We still have five more meetings to attend with supporters and two church services. Any spare time we have will be spent cleaning and packing for our move.

Goodbye California and hello Arizona.

Urgent Need In Honduras

Since January our mission team in Honduras has been constructing a two-acre ministry center in the super poor community of Armenia Bonito. On this property we are building a high school, a medical clinic, a church and a covered soccer field.

We are asking you to prayerfully consider giving a one-time financial gift to help us meet the constructing costs. Here are two exciting reasons why you should consider giving now:

1) For a limited time MTW strategic funds has agreed to match every gift received 1:1. If you give $100, $200 will go to our project.

2) Any gift you give is tax-deductible. Giving before December 31st will help your 2010 taxes.

Honduras has the 2nd poorest economy in Latin America. The average Honduran makes only $3,000 a year and the unemployment rate is above 30%. The people of Armenia Bonito cannot afford to take a bus into town for medical care and only 1/3rd of the kids attend school beyond the sixth grade. This ministry center will greatly address the physical and spiritual needs of this 3,000-person community.

There are two ways you can make a onetime contribution:

1) On-line:

Use your credit or debit card HERE.

Please make sure you enter “92410” as the designation.

2) Check:

Mail your check to:

Mission to the World
P.O. Box 116284
Atlanta, GA 30368-6284
Attn: #92410

Make sure you write "#92410" in the memo of the check.

If you would like to learn more about this ministry center you can watch this 3 minute 20 second video HERE.

Or, you can look at recent pictures of our progress HERE.

Please be in prayer that God will provide the funds we need to complete this ministry center. Also, please consider forwarding this information on to your church or friends and ask them if they would be interested in supporting God’s work in Honduras.

Thank you so much your prayers and support.

Two Churches, Three Services And Cheese

Mike, Erin and Madison at Valley SpringsOn Sunday morning we attended the two morning services at Valley Springs Presbyterian Church in Roseville, CA. At both services we were afforded opportunity to stand up front and share what God is doing in Honduras. The church also surprised us with a wonderful gift of 40 handmade lap quilts to take back to the babies and seniors of Honduras. Madison also shared about her perspective as a missionary kid with the High School Youth Group. Valley Springs has been a major part of our ministry from the beginning.

In the afternoon he hosted 20 friends for a wine and cheese sampling event at the Pettengill Bon Voyage Wine Tasting. This was lots of fun.

In the evening we attend Soaring Oaks Presbyterian Church in Elk Grove. The congregation prayed for us and we heard a great sermon.
