Creative Support

NOTE: We would like to share a very exciting story. But, the person involved was very specific that he does not want to receive credit or be mentioned. He does what he does, not for personal praise, but for God’s glory. With that…here is the story:
Mike has next to no musical talent. But, he has decided to learn the guitar as a ministry for Honduras. Mike recently went guitar shopping. After hearing about our mission plans in Honduras, one of the local music shops gave us a great discount on a guitar, case, books and more. The owner later called us and stated that he would like to give Mike FREE guitar lessons. He wanted to help the people of Honduras by helping Mike.
Mike went for his first guitar lesson today. Let’s just say that there is plenty of room for improvement. While at the lesson the owner shared with Mike that he would like to give us free instruments to take for the people of Honduras. And, that once we are established, he would like to come down to Honduras and give free music lessons to the Hondurans.
God has given all of us everything we have. Some of us have time, some have money, some have talent. What is important is that we are willing to use what we have to help others. This musically talented individual is doing just that.
Ironically this is the second music teacher to donate his time to us. Erin’s piano instructor is teaching her for free for the same exact reason.

A Few Good Men

Friday and Saturday Mike attended the Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology. It was at Immanuel Baptist in Sacramento. The speakers included such theological greats as Ligon Duncan, D.A. Carson, Jerry Bridges and Ken Jones. Nearly 400 people attended.
All the lectures were focused on the topic of the Bible.  The lecture topics included; the ministry of the Word, the true Word, the revealed Word, the mighty Word, the accessible Word, and the sufficient Word. These men really dissected their topics and delivered them in a great way.
Then on Sunday we had the pleasure of hearing Jones and Carson again. This time it was at our home church. Jones preached in the morning and Carson preached in the evening.
What a great opportunity to taste some real spiritual meat. Seven powerful messages, from four great men, in three God honoring days!

Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology

This weekend Mike will be attending the Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology (PCRT). It will be held at Immanuel Baptist in Sacramento. The speakers will include such Reformed stalwarts as Ligon Duncan, D.A. Carson, Jerry Bridges and Ken Jones.
The conference theme is The Word: Above All Earthly Powers and will be focused directly on the Bible. While the PCRT has been around for over twenty years this is the first time it will take place in Sacramento.
Additionally, our home church, Soaring Oaks Presbyterian, will be hosting Ken Jones and D.A. Carson as guest preachers on Sunday. Jones, the host of White Horse Inn radio, will be preaching at 10:30am and Carson, the author of over 45 books, will preach at 6:00pm.
We are all very excited about this weekend.

Church Planting Conference

Mike at Church Planting ConferenceMike is currently in Orlando, FL at the North America Church Planting Conference. He will be there until Friday, February 2nd.

At the conference there are 380 men and women learning about church planting. There are attendees from 33 states, 14 countries and 29 Christian denominations. The participants are Pastors, church leaders and missionaries. There are 74 different training sessions to choose from over 4 ½ days. This is a busy event with lots of prayer, worship, education and vendors.
Mike has gathered an abundance of information that we intend to use as Church Planters in Honduras. It is like taking a drink from a fire hose. Well worth the trip across country.

Mike in Orlando

From January 29th to February 2nd Mike will be in Orlando Florida at the North America Church Planting Conference put on by Mission to North America and Global Church Advancement.
The National Church Planting Seminar is an inter-denominational training event designed to equip church planters, coaches and supervisors to start, grow and multiply healthy, gospel-centered churches that result in the spiritual, social and cultural transformation of entire cities and regions.
Since Mike will be our Church Planter in Honduras, this conference will provide some great information that we can implement. The speakers are experienced church planters that will be able to provide valuable insight based on real life success and failures.
The conference lasts from 8am to 8pm each day. Please pray for Mike’s endurance and ability to absorb all the valuable information.
